@68tgear77 I work with ss#’s all the time. There is no giant pool of numbers. A number reserved for someone born or naturalized in Connecticut is ONLY used for people born or naturalized in Connecticut. Even Robert Gibbs is not claiming this to be the case with President Obama. You don’t have to look any further than your own number and those of people from elsewhere. For example, if you were born in Maine, your number begins with “00″. In the NYC area, it’s “10″, and so on.

@tgear77 DON’T BLAME ME for lack of action on the spill. Right after the spill occurred, as many as 16 nations offered our Government assistance. Obama REFUSED because of the JONES ACT. Obama had the capability TO WAIVE the Jones Act, but chose not to in favor or our unions, thereby refusing any outside expertise, skimmers, equipment, and etc. from foreign nations.
For your information, the JONES ACT says that we can only use American vessels, crews, and manpower on Gulf Coast waters.
@tgear77 As to your reference about the Fire Dept., Obama had the option to work with foreign nations (who had the fire engines), but chose not to call the fire engines in. Instead, he chose to head to California and campaign for Barbara Boxer and enjoy a little time in the sun while playing golf. Obviously, Obama felt there was no hurry and completely underestimated the severity of the situation.
Obama still has the option of WAIVING THE JONES ACT for immediate foreign help and expertise.
I noticed one thing, and that is that he didn’t answer the question. He could have said he didn’t know about it and that he would get back later with an answer, or he could have said that the allegation was false. But instead he just talked about something to do with a birth certificate. Not very forthright is he? I guess that’s why he got the job.
@DwightSimpson Actually, we are in agreement here. I think the Jones Act should be temporarily suspended for the duration of this crisis. We should have accepted the aid of Denmark, Belgium, and the other nations. Hell, if aliens from Jupiter showed up, we should take there help as well. But I am confused here: first you are arguing that our government shouldn’t be interfering in the Gulf, but then you say that all other governments should be helping in the Gulf. Which is it?
